Brad Christensen » Kickflip to flat

I shot down to the Cheapskates Skate Skool Jellie Park Jam on the weekend to cover the event. This little start-up initiative is really starting to thrive, competitors and supporters alike are definitely getting stronger in numbers as these events roll on. And why wouldn’t they—sun, skateboarding & free BBQ is pretty much all you need for a good day out.

Above is a shot of ABC’s Brad Christensen kickflipping down to the flat. See the rest of the photos & results here»

Cheapskates City to Surf

Here’s a cool little event booklet advert we did for Cheapskates Skate Skool, a bid to get more people active—if you’re like me and find running to get quite boring, here’s an alternative: Skate the City to Surf!

For more info on the event, check out the City to Surf website here».

Jellie Skate Jam Poster

Here’s another poster design as part of the Cheapskates Skate Skool Summer Series. This one is based on a photo of Dan Kelcher, a local young ripper. I’ve been focusing lately on further sharpening my drawing tablet skills, and with this I found a blend of photography and illustration that I hadn’t yet discovered (this specific method anyway). By pulling the opacity of the photo back, adjusting and converting it to black and white to keep the tones and textures, then bringing the detail back in with the drawing tablet I managed to create a nice “poppy” modern effect. Click on the poster to see it a little bigger.

This Skate Jam is the first one back for the new year—at Jellie Park in Christchurch if that’s your thing—I’ll be there with my clicker getting some shots. For more info visit skateskool.co.nz

Ampersand Pancake

Messing around with my new Pancake Pen I got for Christmas (thanks Myles & Carley!). Might try and up it to a fancier one next time.
