Edgeware Road
Edgeware Road minutes after the earthquake

As many of you are probably aware, Christchurch was rocked by a violent earthquake on Tuesday the 22nd of February. This is my quick recollection of my early finish from work that day.

“I was being absolutely immersed in designing a web page, hearing about 1 second of rumble, pausing, and thinking

“Hell, this is going to be a decent aftershock”.

After feeling the first powerful jolt I dived for cover under my desk. For about 20–30 seconds the room moved violently in a lateral direction, engulfing us in a roaring noise. Here’s a quick snippet of some of the photos I took for Volcom the other weekend for the 2011 Christchurch Wild in the Parks comp. The day started off with torrential rain hampering spirits early on. As the rain poured, Shane from Volcom gave skaters things to pass the time like seeing how long they could hold a Berocca in their mouth for—probably gotta try it to know what I mean.

As soon as the rain began to clear, it was all on, brooms came out and within about 45 minutes the park was dry and the comp was on.

Be sure to check out the Volcom Blog for more pics plus the vid footage.
