Shooting At The Bowl

What better way to test out the new Nikon D7000 than to come down and shoot the Thomson Park Skate Jam. Over in the ravaged end of town, Thomson bowl is notorious for its design, allowing the people who pick the right line to gather heaps of speed. Sponsors from all over the country came together to help make this event happen, awesome to see.

The new camera proved its worth instantly, far more responsive than its older counterpart, and producing much nicer image quality. Very stoked!

Here’s a few of my favourites from the day, you can see the rest over at the Photos & Results post at Cheapskates Skate Skool.

6’3″ Balsa Fish For A 6.3 Mag Quake

One of our amazing clients Sadhana Surfboards, are getting amongst the active rebuild of our city since the earthquake last month. As representation of the 6.3 mag quake that devastated many lives, and changed and continues to change many others, Jay from Sadhana is crafting a 6’3″ Balsa South Island Fish to put up for auction with proceeds heading towards the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. The stringer and fins will be shaped from timber that once held up the collapsed building behind Sadhana’s Factory.

You can follow Jay’s progress on creating this masterpiece on Sadhana Surfboards’ Facebook Page.

On another note, we’re just about to unveil Sadhana’s sexy new website too. It’s based similarly on their current version, but now packs in a raft of new features, we won’t mention too much quite yet, but keep an eye out…

Thomson Skate Jam Poster

TP-Poster-595

I thought I’d add this poster as a feature on our blog for two reasons; one, it’s gonna be an amazing and uplifting event, particularly with Christchurch in the shape it is at the moment, get down there and support the Christchurch skate scene. Give the blog post over at Cheapskates Skate Skool a visit for more details.

And two, it’s a demonstration of recycled design, not something that can be applied to everything, however in this instance we could. This poster might be familiar to some of you that attended the Jellie Park Skate Jam a little while back (click here to see what I mean). We kept the photo and illustration layering, basic layout and composition, and reworked only the typographic content, and colour scheme giving a very cost effective solution for a series of posters.

7 Studio Tips For Working Post Quake

Posted on: 1 Comment

With Christchurch still under a few regular shakes after our 6.3 mag quake on the 22nd February, I thought it might be a good idea to share a few tips for others — particularly working in an office/studio environment. Dealing with aftershocks is no easy task, and possibly more larger quakes keeps us on our toes. These tips are by no means professional advice, but might help more as reminders and ideas to consider if it suits you or your workplace. (more…)
