Here’s a recent design for Cheapskates Skate Skool’s 2011/12 event schedule.

We’ve been working hard lately on a few skate event posters for Cheapskates Skate Skool, and utilising some of the photography we’ve captured with their Grom of the month section. Here’s a design that we’re pretty pleased with featuring Vinnie Bolt ripping up a frontside air for us. Find out more about the Bishopdale Skate Jam here. T’will be good!

Over the past few years I’ve been working closely with one of our awesome clients TriEx to establish their branding and identity. As they are expanding their scope a pretty cool initiative has been seeded which we developed a logo for.
It’s called Teen Aid — an initiative for young people to gain first aid skills. TriEx worked alongside a group of high school students to foster ideas of how first aid skills to that age group would be beneficial and found the response very positive. Things like looking after elderly people, babysitting, and knowing what to do in an emergency situation were a few of the ideas covered.
The logo design process was one that is very typical of an Enquire logo, as my Professional Practice tutor from design school said “You have to go to Mutant Insane and look back at you concepts to see where the real solution lies”. We may not have so ‘Mutant Insane’ as some other projects, but there where definitely a good number of concepts and ideas thrown around before coming back to the final design.
The iconic first aid cross was used as this immediately tells the viewer what Teen Aid is about, and encapsulating this into a speech bubble captures the process of communicating first aid. Finished off with dynamic use of Jos Buivenga’s Museo typeface and we created a modern, simple, eye-catching logo.

I’ve always been involved with the photography in recent years for this poster, but this year we got to design it too! More details about the event here.
A little while ago we ran a competition to help out a local business/organisation during recovery from the February Earthquake. Skate Further got the hat draw and we helped them get back on their feet organising local events and profiling distance skateboarding by creating a hand-crafted script logo and business card design. Print Monday came to the party and shouted 250 free business card prints which turned out very slick.
Skate Further then discussed a sponsorship deal to design a poster for their upcoming event later this month — the Ruapuna 24. This charity event involves skaters that like to push for a long time — 24 hours for the keen ones! The event is also open to inline skaters, rollerskaters, and (dare I say it) scooters. Everyone will be circuiting the 3.3km Ruapuna Racetrack to their own level, and raising funds for Chomondeley House.

Enquire Design’s ongoing projects with Cheapskates Skate Skool never seem to end. For what supposed to be a quiet period over winter organising events for summer, the events have just kept rolling out — and the colder temps have far from kept the young skaters away, in fact I think the participation is getting higher.
Here’s a couple of posters designed for the Sumner Skate Jam on the 16th July, and the Big Chill on the 29th July. If you’re in Christchurch, head along to these events — good times! If you can’t, keep posted on SkateSkool.co.nz
As promised the second part of the WagonStays rebranding, we covered the logo and business card in a previous post, now it’s time to take a look at the brochure and website.
Here’s a sneak preview of the WagonStays brochure, just the proof back from Print Monday at the moment, look forward to seeing the final product… now to finish their website!
As part of our recent events, we stumbled across the early stages of what would be one of the largest gigs in the Christchurch area for a while — a charity fundraiser event to help out local music venues get back on their feet post the earthquake. Not only was it obvious that Kaira from K.Dawg Promotions was putting in a lot of her time organising the event, but also the dedication of the 19 local bands that were going to make it happen. This is where we decided to get involved as well.
Below is an insight to how the above poster was designed.
Firstly the concept of the poster was finalised with the association of music bringing life back into our broken city, rather that looking at the broken city as a negative. Secondly, the content and format were considered, A3 and 19 bands — meaning a reasonably type heavy poster. To make this work effectively, we drafted the type up in InDesign — yes, sometimes the computer is faster than skatching for formulating a preview). After some black and white print outs, it gave a real good idea of what space we were left with to compliment and compose with imagery and graphic devices.
As part of Cheapskates Skate Skool’s Summer Series, we’ve been responsible for the season’s poster design and direction for over 15 events. Here’s our latest design and photography featured in the Washington Skate Jam coming up on the 16th April. Big thanks to Lindsay Bae for turning it on, we had a selection of three good shots to choose from (two more below). Rock down, it should be a good event! (more…)
